Abstract: The literature on the evaluation of the benefits of public research continues to expand rapidly. However, although governments in OECD countries are turning more and more towards creating formal networks to organise research, their is little in the way of analysis of how such networks might be evaluated in terms of their policy objectives. This paper seeks to both define the concept of formal research networks and map the conceptual issues in evaluating them.

New AUTM Reports from Clayman for CFI

AUTM Reports

This series of reports is based primarily on data derived from the annual surveys conducted since 1991 by the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) on the commercialisation of intellectual property developed at U.S. and Canadian universities. Five performance indicators from the AUTM reports are analyzed, on a per annum basis. The raw data are normalized by total research expenditures to draw interesting conclusions about commercialisation productivity and factors that help determine it. Results from the surveys of Canadian universities and U.S. universities and other research institutions are compared with the results with results for the UK and Australia.
